City Council Skips LRT Proposal in City Budget

Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) did not count on the deletion of Light Rail Transit (LRT) proposal in 2015 city budget.

LRT concept is truly funded by private, but the operation involves BUMD. No problem with the deletion

"LRT concept is truly funded by private, but the operation involves BUMD. No problem with the deletion," Basuki said.

The former Regent of East Belitung admitted, although the LRT construction in capital is given to private parties, city government still receives the advantages from the construction. The gains will be allocated to subsidize other public transports in Jakarta. "We can buy the bus or train with low price," he added.

City to Build LRT Next Year

Basuki explained, city government already has design of 7 LRT corridors that believed to facilitate transportation when Asian Games 2018 hosted in Jakarta.

However, Basuki revealed that his side will not give all LRT construction to private parties. "As for beginning, we will give private parties to build two LRT corridors," he continued.

Meanwhile, five LRT corridors will be built gradually from profits of the two corridors. "So, I change the concept. I allow private parties to build two corridors, after LRT gain profits, the Council will see it and the remaining five corridors are funded by us," he explained.

As for information, Basuki invited big-scale property entrepreneur in capital to participate and build LRT. Some of the developers are Agung Sedayu Group, Agung Podomore, JIExpo, PT Intiland, Lippo Group, Panin Group, Summarecon, and Pakuwon Group. Besides them, 2 BUMDs will also participate. Those are PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol, and PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro).

The LRT project is gained from the developer's responsibility to give the building floor coefficients (KLB) to Jakarta Provincial Government.

Based on the plan, city will build 7 corridors, they are; Corridor I Kebayoran Lama-Kelapa Gading as long as 21,6 km, Corridor 2 Tanah Abang-Pulo Mas (17,6 km); Corridor 3 Joglo-Tanah Abang (11 km), Corridor 4 Puri Kembangan-Tanah Abang (9,3 km); Corridor 5 Pesing-Kelapa Gading (20,7 km); Corridor 6 Pesing-Bandara Soekarno-Hatta (18,5 km), and Corridor 7 Cempaka Putih-Ancol (10 km). For the beginning, city will build corridor 1 and 7.
